How We Met
The first time the bride and groom officially met was in the winter of 2007 at Oconomowoc High School.

Katie was a freshman and Jake was a sophomore at West Bend West high school. It was a snowy day, and Katie traveled with her friend's family to watch the varsity West Bend West basketball team play at Oconomowoc High School. At the time, Jake was on the JV team and was also watching the varsity team play. This is where they were first introduced by mutual friends. It wasn't love-at-first-sight, but they did not forget that meeting.

About a year later, Katie was a junior and Jake was a senior in high school, and they had class schedules that meant they would see each other in the V hallway almost everyday. Katie can remember seeing Jake and talking to her friends about how cute he was after he would walk past.
Later that year they ran into each other at a mutual friend's house and the rest, as they say, was history. They started dating a couple of weeks later.

Story
The Engagement
On July 30, 2014, a family vacation brought Jake and Katie to the beautiful Fern Grotto in Kauai, Hawaii.

It was a scorching hot day, and a short ferry ride took them to the Fern Grotto. The tour guides talked about how many weddings have taken place in front of the Grotto and the Hawaiian dancers did a dance to a Hawaiian wedding song for the tour group.

When they were done, Katie and Jake were to stand in front of a part of the Grotto to take a picture together. They walked up together, Katie was ready and posed, and wondered why Jake wasn't joining her.
​
She looked over and saw him on his knee. She stated to say, "What are you doing?" when she saw what he was holding. It was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. She immediately burst out crying when he popped the question. SPOILER ALERT: She said YES!

It was the moment that Katie had always dreamed about, and Jake was definitely proud of himself for pulling off the surprise.
